Seta Sponsors and Attends Key Aviation Fuel Standards Seminar and ASTM D02.J Committee Meeting
Brussels, April 2025 – Stanhope-Seta proudly sponsored and participated in the “Aviation Fuels and Standards for Synthetic Aviation Turbine Fuels (SATF)” Seminar and ASTM D02.J Aviation Fuel Committee Meeting held in Brussels this month. The event brought together leading experts from across the globe to discuss the development, testing, and certification of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Throughout the week, Stanhope-Seta showcased a selection of advanced instrumentation used in aviation fuel testing, including the FIJI (ASTM D7797/IP 583), JetDC (IP 638), AvCount (ASTM D7619, IP 565, IP 630), and Water Separation Index WSI (ASTM D8073/IP 624). These instruments represent the cutting edge of fuel quality analysis and are widely adopted across the aviation industry.
The seminar featured key presentations on the ASTM D4054 process for approving synthetic sustainable aviation fuels, along with essential specifications such as ASTM D7566, ASTM D1655, and DEF STAN 91-091. Stanhope-Seta contributed to the technical discussions with presentations on Particle Counting, Relative Permittivity, Joint Test Methods, and provided an ASTM international membership update. The event drew an impressive 309 delegates from 33 countries, including participants from Japan and the U.S. West Coast.
The meetings were chaired by Mark Rumizen of Air Company Holdings (ASTM D02.J Chair) and Jim Simnick, formerly of BP International (ASTM D02 Chair), supported by fellow ASTM D02.J and D02 officers. A highlight of the event was the Award of Appreciation presented to Bob McCormick of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (USA) for his significant contributions to the Lean Blowout research, which led to the addition of ASTM D8183 (AFIDA) to ASTM D4054 for measuring Indicated Cetane Number (ICN).
Stanhope-Seta remains committed to supporting the advancement of aviation fuel standards and is looking forward to attending the upcoming ASTM D02 meetings in Kansas (June) and Houston (December).
