Brooklands Innovation Academy 2024
The Brooklands Innovation Academy inspires and supports young people to become the next generation of scientists and engineers, helping make Britain the best place in the world to do science.
On Tuesday 1st October, Seta were invited to take part in the Brooklands Innovation Academy at Brooklands Museum in Surrey. Against a historic backdrop renowned for innovation and world firsts in engineering and design, Brooklands Innovation Academy creates inspirational STEM experiences for young people.
Seta held a workshop for Year 8 students, focusing on the importance and need for clean and dry fuels to ensure safe travel. Series 3 Flash Point Testers were used to demonstrate several flash point tests on jet fuel and mouthwash, followed by a discussion on flammable liquids and the importance of safe transport of storage.
The SetaCheck Biodiesel was demonstrated with diesel samples of various biofuel percentages, with a discussion on the significance of introducing sustainable fuels to reduce carbon emissions and offset the need for fossil fuels.
By running sample on our instruments, students witnessed first hand laboratory techniques and applications used in today’s scientific research and testing.
In the evening, Seta took part in a panel discussion about the importance of STEM awareness, apprenticeship opportunities and work experience. The day concluded with an open evening for parents and students in Year 10.
We are very pleased to have been part of such a successful and important STEM event, bringing together 400 students from 34 schools.
