6th August 2024 | Company News

This July Stanhope-Seta held its first Summer School for students from Chertsey and Jubilee High. Over a period of a week, the students engaged in a series of practical STEM learning activities providing a number of unique opportunities and enhancing their academic knowledge. The students’ project centered around a rocket which they helped design and work on with the end goal being to safely launch on completion.

Students worked closely with a number of engineers at Seta and were encouraged to ask questions about their career paths, apprenticeship experiences, University courses and University life.

Throughout the week, students got hands on with a number of practical activities including,

Solidworks 3D graphic design, exploring product design and understanding the stages of development having in mind associated considerations. Students were able to design rocket fins and a head as a part of their personalised design which was then 3D printed in their chosen colour.

As a part of electrical engineering, students learnt about PCB board designs and function including materials, power sources and capacitance. They were given an opportunity to get practical and develop their soldering and wire stripping skills.

Software engineering was introduced to students in order for them to understand the importance of computer-aided manufacturing and latest technologies. They were given an example of code and encourage to explore the topics in order to create their own interactive game.

Mr Tom Corry, Director of Careers within the Bourne Educational Trust commented:

“Stanhope-Seta Young Engineer Summer School has been an amazing opportunity for students to receive a bespoke crash course in the cutting edge of the industry at the moment. The commitment of Stanhope-Seta, and in particular Jadranka, to develop projects like this is commendable and is testament to the value they place on working with young people to inspire and engage with them to give meaning and purpose to their education.  The experience they have gained over the week long programme will go on to inspire and guide them through their final years of education and into the world of work.”

We are thrilled to be able to offer students an alternative learning opportunity at Seta with the aim to enhance their critical thinking skills and equip them to thrive in any academic setting.
