Entrained air can lead to serious disruptions in equipment operation

During operation or storage, oils are constantly in an exchange process with their air-containing environment. Lubricating oils are not completely free of air and whilst a sample may seem free of air bubbles it may contain a proportion of dissolved air.

The amount of dispersing additives, the oil's density and any impurities also play a role in how much air they may contain. Excess amounts of entrained air can lead to serious disruptions in equipment opertion, increased oxidation tendency and shortened lubricating efficiency. The ARV (Air Release Value) test determines the time taken for hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils to release entrained air and gases.

The new single footprint integrated ARV automates and greatly simplifies test protocols compared to traditional instruments. A sinker permanently fixed to the balance with the sample raised up over it eliminates the risk of dropping it into the hot sample. This sample is quickly and precisely moved between test modes without risk to the operator due to a mechanical vessel platform.

The ARV incorporates a number of enhanced operator safety features. The automatic test process means there is no need to handle hot samples, whilst a protective safety shield around the vessel during aeration reduces risks of accidents. An exhaust filter system extracts noxious fumes emitted by the test sample, an air flow interlock prevents heating when there’s no air flow and safety cut-out prevents overheating.

Ensuring stable density and test repeatability thanks to automatic timing and regulated aeration, the new Seta ARV allows enhanced test throughput with less reliance or risk to the operator.
