WATER SEPARABILITY IN LUBRICANTS

7/4/2017

Water has the potential to cause a variety of lubricant performance issues

Rust and corrosion of metal parts is promoted, increasing maintenance costs and machinery downtime
A lubricants viscosity may be reduced, which then reduces its load carrying capabilities and ability to keep moving parts separated, resulting in increased friction, wear and heat
It increases oxidation, the chemical reaction between a lubricant and oxygen that shortens the lubricants service life

It is therefore important that good water separability is a property of lubricants.

The Herschel Emulsifier determines the water separability of petroleum oils and synthetic fluids.
